CPIE SEIGNANX ADOUR

La diversification au service de la transition agroécologique du Seignanx : expérimentation de nouvelles cultures et pratiques

The aim of the project is to support the shift of corn producers towards practices that promote low-impact, input-free, resilient crops that contribute to soil regeneration and biodiversity preservation: creation of a farm school, training, demonstration and experimentation support (machinery, equipment, introduction of crop rotations, cover crops, pesticide-free crops, raising awareness of organic farming, etc.).
The next objective is to respond to the socio-economic interests of farms through the development of profitable products, while limiting risk-taking. Support for changes in practices aims to develop farmers’ autonomy and resilience in the face of market fluctuations. It also involves creating opportunities for farmers to meet, promote exchange, and combat isolation through a collective and shared project.
Finally, it is about meeting local food demand. Local restaurant operators confirm a growing demand for local products, particularly legumes (greening of plates; lower environmental footprint than animal proteins). This is a favorable context for initiating the relocation and diversification of crops in Seignanx, for which there are existing markets.
The tests will be carried out by a conventional farmer who aspires to gradually transition to organic farming. He envisions his farm as a “learning center” that creates opportunities for collective exchange and sharing, thereby revitalizing the local agricultural community. Control plot: corn / Test plots: 1. red beans + cover crop; 2. white beans + cover crop; 3. corn + cover crop.
