Ferme La Gelouze

La Gelouze Farm

The project aims to study a comprehensive and dynamic approach to soil and crops in order to determine whether it can be combined in a sustainable manner. To do this, the project seeks to adhere to three principles (cover crops, free-range poultry farming, vegetable cultivation) based on the applicant’s experience and knowledge. He has been growing organic vegetables for over 20 years, for a long time using intensive ploughing, which has led to intense mineralisation and rapid soil depletion, requiring significant inputs to compensate. The soil is silty clay, loose, making it almost impossible to provide the necessary inputs.
Cover crops help to incorporate nutrients and improve soil structure and water retention. The integration of ducks into the rotation aims to avoid the use of slug pellets, while vermicomposting aims to compensate for some of the exports caused by harvesting and to maintain dynamic life in the soil.
